The Statistical Office in Poznan belongs to the system of services of official statistics subject to the President of the Central Statistical Office and acts on the basis of:

• Law dated 29 June 1995 on Official Statistics (Journal of Laws No. 88, item 439, with later amendments),
• Charter of the Statistical Office in Poznan established by Order No. 2 by the President of the Central Statistical Office dated 2 April 2014 on Detailed Scope of Tasks and Organisation of the Statistical Office in Poznan (Official Journal of the CSO No. 14, item 14),
• Organisational regulation for the Statistical Office in Poznan, established by Internal Order No. 5 by the Director of the Statistical Office in Poznan dated 29 January 2015 (sign: POZ-WO.0220.5.2015),
• Law dated 21 November 2008 on Civil Service (Journal of Laws No. 227, item 1505).

According to the above documents, main tasks realised by the Statistical Office in Poznan include:

• organisation and conduction of statistical surveys, of which censuses,
• gathering, collection, storage and elaboration of data used to statistical surveys conducted according to the Programme of Statistical Surveys of Official Statistics,
• dissemination and popularisation of resulting statistical information received as a result of the statistical surveys of official statistics, of which basic quantities and indices,
• maintaining national official registers:
   
  • REGON - entities of the national economy,
  • TERYT - territorial division of the country, in a scope including area of the Wielkopolskie Voivodship,
• converting administrative registers into statistical data sets,
• participating in the development of the survey methodology related to Wielkopolska Voivodship,
• identifying and analysing the demand for statistical information and analyses across territorial subdomains within Wielkopolska Voivodship, as well as designing methods and forms to satisfy it,
• conducting research and analyses relevant to the specific character of the province, including the collaboration with research institutions,
• providing information to units of local government and advisory and expert bodies cooperating with local government,
• conducting work aimed at popularizing and promoting statistics and the dissemination of statistical literacy, including the provision of statistical education in Wielkopolska Voivodship,
• providing statistical information about the area of  Wielkopolska Voivodship to state agencies, local government bodies and other data users,
• cooperating with state agencies and local government bodies in Wielkopolska which maintain official registers and information systems of public administration to ensure that statistical databases are regularly updated and can be used as sampling frames,
• conducting joint research with state agencies or local authorities which has been included in the survey program of official statistics, at their request,
• realisation of the national tasks performed for the official statistics as a whole, i.e. i.a.:
   
  • organize and run statistical surveys and to prepare publications and analyses relating to short term statistics,
  • develop the statistical information system for urban areas and specifically to initiate surveys, carry out methodological work and coordinate efforts undertaken in the field of large cities statistics,
  • implement small area estimation methodology to meet the needs expressed by official statistics, specifically local statistics,
  • carrying out work  in the design, supply and administration of macroeconomic data bank,
  • carrying out work in the area of administration and maintenance of the development monitoring system.
